Parolee Behind Bars in Fatal Stabbing at Fallbrook Gas Station


A parolee was in custody Thursday on suspicion of fatally stabbing a man while stealing his backpack at a gas station in Fallbrook, a sheriff's sergeant said.

Travis Sean Hopkins, 25, allegedly attacked William Baker Jr., 23, of Fallbrook, in the 900 block of East Mission Road around 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, sheriff's homicide Sgt. David Martinez said.

Baker died at the scene.

Hopkins and a woman fled in a vehicle but were caught in Oceanside at the end of a pursuit, Martinez said.

Hopkins was booked into Vista Detention Facility on suspicion of murder, robbery and violating his parole. He was held without bail pending an arraignment hearing scheduled for Friday afternoon.

Carmina Marie Bunnel, 25, was detained, questioned and released, Martinez said.
